Career Planning GameCamp! is designed to raise students awareness of college and career opportunities in the game development industry. Our goal is to motivate students to work hard, set goals, and apply themselves to their education with the same enthusiasm they have when playing video games. GameCamp!'s curriculum is focused on the real career issues faced by young game developers. GameCamp! is designed for middle school and high school students and requires no formal training, just a desire to have fun and learn. Achievement Model The achievement model is the system we use to reward student excellence in game development. By giving students increased opportunity and expanded responsibilities to hone their skills at the camps, students gain experience andy can then move on to more advanced curriculum, internships, summer jobs, contract work, and hopefully a job in the video game industry. Advanced GameCamp! students also learn by teaching, acting as mentors to younger or more inexperienced students. The goal is simple. After spending summers at GameCamp! students will be smarter and more prepared for college, will have developed a network of developers, and understand the industry more thoroughly. Ideally, once they are out of college they will have amassed years of experience in and around the game industry giving them a clear advantage over their graduating classmates. Some notes from parents
Well what is more important to a parent then whether or not their child is going to have a great camp experience?!? Not much, which is why we have included some quotes from parents whose children have attended GameCamp!.
My son (Zach) is finishing up week #2 at Texas State U. GameCamp! and he is having a great time! I am thrilled that this program is so high quality and I want to give special regards to Spencer Zuzolo, who is doing a fabulous job! Just to update you on how Zach felt about camp, he told me it was the best 2 weeks he's ever had! Stephanie Wall Dear (Zach's Mom) ACC and Texas State GameCamp!
I appreciate your taking the time to visit with me about Connor yesterday. Thanks especially for your interest in him and for your willingness to provide him with some uncommon guidance and developmental opportunity. Tom Nicholson (GameCamp! Dad) Lafayette GameCamp!
Hi Spencer, Zeke had a GREAT time at the camp in Lafayette. Roxanne Grubb, (Zeke's Mom), Lafayette GameCamp!
From our observations the camp was well organized and staffed with highly capable, friendly instructors. Students were given plenty of opportunity to make friends and compete in a variety of gaming venues, but they were also taught about the nuts and bolts of the game development business, and they were required to work in teams to produce a new game product. The highlight for me was the game product judging – very professional, a unique connection to the real world of game development – a lasting experience. Jo Ellen Korthals (Ben's mom). Texas State GameCamp!
Hi Spencer, I just wanted to say that we were thrilled with how much Cole enjoyed the Game Camp in Lafayette. It was a great experience for him. Congratulations to you for doing a great job and for providing a stimulating and safe environment for kids to have a good time away from home. Helen Connelly (Cole's Mom) Lafayette GameCamp!
